# Clubs and after-school activities: interest survey

A survey to run before clubs open: which activities children want, when they can attend and whether families would pay. The timetable follows the answers, not last year’s sign-up sheets.

- 9 blocks

Template

## Who it is for and when to run it

Run it in spring or just before the new school year, when a school or activity centre decides which clubs to open and how many groups to run. It replaces guesswork based on last year’s sign-up sheets.

It is for whoever plans enrichment: a deputy head, an activities coordinator, or the owner of a private studio or learning centre. For a private centre the paid-classes question is especially useful.

Parents answer together with their child, and the first screen says so. A child’s interest in a club matters more than an adult’s view of what would be good for them.

## What the template is made of

Every block in the order it sits in the builder. Branching decides which of them a given person actually sees.

1. Clubs and activities for next year [Text block](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/statement)

The opening screen explains why: the school is planning clubs. Asking parents to answer with their child sets the tone for the whole form.

2. What year is your child in? [Dropdown](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/dropdown)

Year group in three bands. Clubs and timetables for younger and older pupils are planned differently.

3. Does your child attend any clubs or sports sections now? [Yes / No](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/yes-no)

Does the child attend clubs now: yes or no. It separates children with a full timetable from those looking for a first activity.

4. Which areas interest your child? [Multiple choice](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/multi-choice)

Ten areas from sport and dance to robotics, chess and exam preparation. Required, with several choices allowed: this is the core question.

5. What matters most when choosing a club? Drag to reorder [Ranking](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/ranking)

A ranking of what matters when choosing: the child’s interest, time, free of charge, location, an experienced teacher. It shows why a family would or would not sign up even when the subject appeals.

6. Which times suit you? [Multiple choice](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/multi-choice)

Convenient times: straight after lessons, weekday evenings, weekends. The timetable grid depends on this.

7. How many times a week could your child attend? [Single choice](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/single-choice)

How many times a week: once, twice, three or more. It stops you from opening a three-times-a-week club where families would come once.

8. Would you consider paid classes? [Single choice](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/single-choice)

Paid classes in three options: yes, yes at a reasonable price, free only. A separate question so interest and money are not mixed.

9. Which club is missing? [Long answer](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/long-text)

Which club is missing: the open question where ideas for new activities come from.

Template

## How to adapt the template

1. Replace the list of areas with what you can actually run. If an option appears in the survey, parents will expect the club to exist.

2. For a private centre, delete the year-group question and add a [Number](https://askyo.ru/en/question-types/number) question for the child’s age.

3. To take provisional sign-ups, add a parent name, a phone number and a consent block at the end.

4. Put a price guide into the paid-classes question text, so «reasonable price» means the same to everyone.

5. Share the link in class chats and pin a QR code by the entrance.

Template

## How to read the results

Rank areas by the number of ticks, then split by year band. Robotics may lead among older pupils and barely register with the youngest.

Cross interest with time and frequency. A subject with plenty of demand where everyone wants weekends is a different club from «Tuesdays after school».

The ranking shows what families are willing to trade. If «Free of charge» comes first for most, open a paid group in a popular subject with caution.

Group the open answers about missing clubs. An idea several families raise independently deserves its own short follow-up survey.

Template

## Common mistakes

- Listing activities nobody plans to open. Parents remember and ask in September.
- Asking only about interest, without time and frequency. You cannot build a timetable from interest alone.
- Running the survey after the timetable is already fixed.
- Mixing price and interest in one question. A child can be keen while the family cannot afford it; those are two different numbers.

Frequently asked questions

## Questions about the «Clubs and after-school activities: interest survey» template

How do I find out which after-school clubs pupils want?

Survey parents before clubs open: ask about the child’s interests, convenient times, how often they could attend and whether paid classes are an option. The template lists ten areas that you swap for what your school can actually run.

What should an after-school activities survey include?

The year group, whether the child already attends a club, areas of interest, what matters when choosing, convenient times, weekly frequency, attitude to paid classes and an open question on which club is missing.

Can parents sign up for a club through this survey?

Only if you add a parent name, a phone number and a consent block. The original template is an anonymous interest survey without them. For actual enrolment a separate registration form is cleaner.
