Question type

# Phone number field

A phone number question is a form field with a country picker that formats digits as the respondent types and checks that the number is complete. Every answer is stored in the same international format, so a list of two hundred sign-ups does not need to be cleaned by hand before somebody starts calling.

## When a phone number is worth the friction

People give out a phone number more reluctantly than an email. Ask for it when a call or a message is part of the deal: a callback request, a delivery, a test drive, a clinic appointment.

For a free webinar or a newsletter, a required phone field mostly filters out people who would have registered. If the sales team insists, make it optional and explain what happens next.

Be specific about the channel. «We will call you within a working day» or «We will send a message on the day of delivery» reassures people that the number will not end up on a cold-calling list, and it sets an expectation your team then has to meet.

## Examples of phone questions

- What number should the courier call?
- Phone for booking confirmation
- Leave a number if you would like a callback

## Country picker, formatting and the phone view

The block has a default country and a placeholder. Out of the box the country is Russia; change it in the editor to match where your respondents are. The picker is searchable and shows flags, with nineteen frequently used countries at the top of the list.

As the respondent types, the number is split into groups for that country. Pasting a number that starts with a plus switches the country automatically, which helps people copying their number from contacts.

If the number is incomplete, the message asks for the full number and shows an example for the chosen country. Answers are saved in the international E.164 format.

In the results you see a breakdown by country code and sample numbers.

What you can set

Frequently asked questions

## Phone number field: common questions

Can people from different countries use the same form?

Yes. The default country is only a starting point. Each respondent can pick their own country in the list or paste a number with an international prefix, and the field switches to that country’s format and check.
