Date picker question Question type # Date picker question A date picker question asks the respondent to pick a day from a calendar instead of typing it. The answer arrives as a machine-readable date, so you can sort, filter and compare responses without cleaning up entries like «next Tues» or «03/04», which mean different days in different countries. Half of them write the month first, some add the weekday, a few write «ASAP». A calendar removes the guesswork before submission rather than after export. Typical jobs for it: a job application asking when someone can start, a clinic form asking for a preferred visit day, an age gate on a competition entry, a warranty claim asking when the product was bought. ## Example date questions - When could you start working with us? - On which day did you buy the device? - What is your date of birth? (used only to check you are over 18) ## Date limits, branching and the phone view The block has two optional limits, «not earlier than» and «not later than», plus a «future only» switch. Pick a date outside the limits and the respondent sees «Not earlier than X» or «Not later than X»; pick a past day with the switch on and the message reads «That date has already passed, pick a later one». Dates can also steer the survey. Each date condition becomes its own branch in the graph: not before or not after a fixed date or today, or a minimum and maximum gap in days, months or years. That is how an age gate works: «at least 18 years before today» sends adults one way and everyone else another. The first matching condition wins, and a default branch catches the rest. On a phone the calendar opens as a compact picker, so nobody has to fight the keyboard. In results you get date buckets and the most frequent day; in quiz mode a date can be scored against an exact correct answer. What you can set - lower bound - upper bound - future dates only - date checks: age, working days, no past dates ## Mistakes that make date answers useless Asking for a date of birth when you only need an age check. A full birth date is personal data you then have to store and protect; a date condition such as «at least 18 years before today» answers the real question and can be combined with a short explanation of why you ask. Leaving the range open. Past dates, yes: turn on «future only» or set an earliest date.
