# Askyo vs Google Forms

Google Forms is free and everybody already knows it. Here is where a free form builder stops being the right tool.

## Which one to pick

### Pick Google Forms if

- the survey is internal or for a class and collects no personal data
- your reports already live in Google Sheets
- you need many forms and have no budget
- people fill the form in by link and it never needs to sit on your site

### Pick Askyo if

- you need branching deeper than “go to section”
- the survey has to sit on your site as a widget
- you need NPS, ranking, a matrix or a chat format
- the data has to stay on your own servers

## In short

Google Forms is hard to argue with for internal forms and scored quizzes, and responses land in Google Sheets straight away. Its limits: jumping by answer only works for multiple-choice and dropdown questions, its help centre lists 12 question types, and embedding means an iframe. Askyo adds graph logic, 43 question types and a script-based widget. Checked against the Google Docs Editors help centre on 27 September 2026.

### Where Google Forms is strong

- yes Free, and almost everybody already knows how it works
- yes Responses go straight into Google Sheets
- yes A quiz mode with correct answers and points
- yes A “one response per person” limit through Google sign-in

### Where Askyo is ahead

- yes Branching on a diagram by choice, yes/no or date, not just “go to section”
- yes 43 question types against the 12 in the Google Forms help centre
- yes A one-line script widget instead of an embedded iframe
- yes Four ways to take a survey, including chat and one question per screen
- yes Webhooks from Pro and Slack, Telegram and Sheets presets from Team, no Apps Script
- yes A self-hosted build when the data cannot sit in a vendor cloud

## When Google Forms is the better choice

The honest part: cases where switching is not worth it.

### Internal surveys and classroom quizzes

For polling colleagues, a class vote or a quiz with no names attached, Google Forms is free and everyone knows it. Moving that kind of job to a paid tool rarely makes sense.

### Everything is already in Google Sheets

If your reports are built in Google Sheets and formulas depend on the responses sheet, Google Forms gives you that with no setup. Askyo exports to Google Sheets from the Team plan.

### Many forms, no budget

Askyo Free gives you 5 surveys and 150 responses in total. If you need lots of forms without paying and without personal data, Google Forms is the better deal.

## Branching: “go to section” versus a diagram

Google Forms branches through sections. On a question you switch on “Go to section based on answer” and pick which section each option leads to. It only works for multiple-choice and dropdown questions. For a wider look at the options, see our [Google Forms alternative](https://askyo.ru/en/google-forms-alternative) page.

In Askyo you can branch on single or multiple choice, yes/no, picture choice and dates, and each arrow points at a specific question rather than a whole section. The whole diagram is in front of you, so a 30-question survey with five branches can be checked by eye instead of clicking through sections.

## Putting the form on your website

Google Forms offers an HTML snippet that embeds the form in an iframe. It works, but it looks like Google Forms inside your page, and the height is fixed in the snippet.

Askyo embeds with a single script tag. The survey renders in Shadow DOM, weighs about 35 KB, and on paid plans takes your accent colour and logo. You can place it inline or open it from any button through the JS API.

## Moving your surveys from Google Forms to Askyo

Askyo has no importer, from Google Forms or from anywhere else. A survey is rebuilt by hand. This is the order that takes the least time.

1. If the form was linked to a Google Sheet, the responses are already there; keep a copy of that sheet. Old responses do not move into Askyo.
2. Copy the question texts and answer options out of Google Forms into one document, in order, with a note on where each branch leads.
3. Open the Askyo builder and paste that text into the Yo assistant. It drafts the survey and shows every change before applying it; the free plan includes 10 Yo requests.
4. Check the question types: turn a 0–10 scale into an NPS question, a grid into a matrix, and phone or email into fields with input validation.
5. Build the logic on the diagram: drag arrows from answer options to the next questions, then walk through every branch yourself.
6. Publish, swap the old link for the new one, and put the one-line widget on your site.

## The verdict

Google Forms is the right answer for internal forms, classroom quizzes and anything where “free and everyone knows it” outweighs everything else. Once the survey is customer-facing (branching logic, your branding, embedded in your own site), you have outgrown it.

Frequently asked questions

## Google Forms or Askyo: common questions

Is there a Google Forms alternative with better branching?

Yes. Askyo builds the survey as a diagram: every question is a node and every jump is an arrow, so branching on choices, yes/no answers and dates is visible at a glance. Google Forms only branches from multiple-choice and dropdown questions to whole sections.

Can I move a Google Form to Askyo?

Not automatically: Askyo has no Google Forms importer. Copy the form’s questions as text, paste them into the Yo assistant, check the question types and draw the logic on the diagram. Keep the old responses in your Google Sheet; they do not move into Askyo.

Does Askyo have scored quizzes like Google Forms?

Yes. Askyo’s quiz mode has correct answers, points, a tolerance for numeric answers and a “Result: X of Y” screen. The free plan allows one outcome screen and Pro up to five. For classroom quizzes without personal data, Google Forms is also a fine choice.

How many question types does each have?

The Google Forms help centre lists 12 question types, from short answer to date and time. Askyo has 43, including NPS, ranking, pairwise comparison, matrix, semantic differential and card sorting. 33 of them are on the free plan; file upload, voice and video start on Pro.

Is Askyo free like Google Forms?

There is a free plan with no time limit: 5 surveys, 150 responses in total, the graph editor and 10 requests to the Yo assistant. Beyond that, Pro costs 1 490 ₽ a month for 5,000 responses. Google Forms stays cheaper if all you need is simple forms.
